Leviathan
Character Bio
Leviathan, a somewhat stationary gigantic crab with four clawed arms, is the guardian over 1916 Greece and the first end boss you'll confront. There's little room for strategic attacks as you blast away at this creature on an elevated plateau, trying to avoid his devastating rockets and quad claws. To beat Leviathan, you'll first have to destroy his four claws to have a good shot at his weak spot, the mouth. The best strategy is to keep moving around him, but this takes some practice. However, movement is key so that Leviathan has a harder time of locking onto you with his rockets.THE STORY
As the 1800s drew to a close, scientists had only just begun to focus on the stars, forming what is now known as astronomy. Using their simple telescopes, they managed to gaze at the heavens and even make out details of other planets. Many times they had seen shooting stars and comets even without the telescope, but this new one was different. It was huge with an extremely long, bright tail. Due to these factors, they named it "Sheshna," the snake.
As 1905 approached -- the public eye still in love with outer space -- rumors began to circulate about giant creatures that would appear out of nowhere, eat entire families, and then vanish once more. The rumors became urban legends and folklore, the kinds of tales that mothers tell their children to keep them in line. How true the stories were would not be realized for another 11 years.
In 1916, reports shot out across the world of an attack on the island of Greece, but when rescue crews arrived, equipped with everything from boats to airplanes, they found themselves at bay outside of a giant blue force field. The aircraft reported that the cylindrical barrier went up into the sky as far as they could see -- with no way of getting in! Back on the ground, the firemen, doctors and military officers watched in helpless horror as the few survivors made their way to the wall, screaming and bloodying their fists trying to escape. After roughly 24 hours, the wall simply evaporated and the crew rushed in. No survivors would be found. How could there be no survivors? No bodies? No blood?
By the end of the day-long search of Greece, another force field had appeared over the coast of southern Spain, also vanishing after twenty-four hours and leaving no survivors. The next day, the force field appeared over eastern Canada, once again disappearing a day later. Finally, the force field appeared over Japan's southernmost island, vanishing for good after 24 hours.
As humanity awaited another attack, a new astronomy facility in India spotted Sheshna heading off towards the sun, forming an orbit around the star. Using crude calculations, the scientists estimated it would take the comet 25 years to orbit the sun and return to Earth for another attack.
With hopes of creating new defenses to ward off the returning aliens, mankind put aside its petty differences and worked together for 15 years, until the prospect of these glorious new weapons tore the world back into war against itself. Now broken apart once again, a cold war erupted backed by newly created weapons stockpiled and used to threaten other countries. Thankfully, none were ever fired. Needless to say, when Sheshna returned 10 years later, mankind was once again devastated by the attacks, leading to the eradication of much of Earth.
2016. Now home only to a few unlucky humans and most of the animal population, the Space Station Omega orbits Earth. Within this facility, scientists have broken the mysteries of time travel. By sending genetically engineered soldiers back to a time prior to the alien attacks, humanity hopes to stave off the invasion.
As the humans continue to develop their army of soldiers, creating new ships for each in the process, an alien attack force shows up and invades the station! With only a handful of active soldiers, all but one is killed. Adam Drake manages to escape to Alpha 1, where he blasts off into the past. His destination: 1916 Greece. If he can place himself inside the shield, he may be able to stop the invasion -- or at least save some lives before the aliens kill them all. ~ Shawn Sackenheim, All Game Guide
