Leyland Trucks, which has laid claim to the roads in the UK and western Europe for more than 100 years, is also navigating into North America. Founded in 1896, the US-based PACCAR subsidiary (since 1998) makes about 25,000 trucks each year. Ranging in size from six to 44 tons, Leyland's trucks can be found on roads all over Europe. Leyland also makes trucks for other PACCAR company nameplates, including its DAF, Kenworth, and Peterbilt lines. The company's factory site near Manchester also operates a parts distribution center. Leyland manufactured Foden vehicles for PACCAR until 2006 when the line was retired.
