Discrimination protections

In January 2009, following the January 2009 Bolivian constitutional referendum, a new constitution took effect in Bolivia.[1] It prohibits discrimination based on sex, gender identity, and sexual orientation.[2]

Recognition of same-sex relationships

The new constitution also limits both marriage and civil unions to heterosexual couples, though opposite-sex civil unions are have not been established in the country.
