Liam S. Gógan

 

Gógan, Liam S. (1891-1979), poet. Born in Dublin, he was educated at UCD. He was assistant keeper of antiquities at the National Museum of Ireland from 1914. He was interned after the Easter Rising, and reemployed at the Museum in 1922, becoming Keeper 1936-56. His verse draws on Irish bardic poetry and early modernists such as Théophile Gautier. Volumes were Nua-Dhánta (1919), Dánta agus Duanóga (1929), Dánta an Lae Indiu (1936), Dánta Eile (1946), Dánta agus Duanta (1952), and Duanaire a Sé (1966).
