Liberty International Underwriters (LIU) believes it pays to specialize. The specialty lines business of property/casualty giant Liberty Mutual Insurance, the company writes policies for niche markets, including ones that cover builders' risks, overland and ocean cargo, energy and engineering risks, and specialty liabilities. With about 30 offices in North America, Asia, and Europe, the firm offers many of its products worldwide through a network of independent brokers. It also offers claims management, and provides workers' compensation insurance in the US and Canada. In addition, LIU manages alternative risk programs, including captive insurance companies, for some clients.
