Life Garden originally began in 1989 with David and Su Ling Oliphant improvising an array of acoustic instruments, synthesizers, and samplers to the background of George Dillon spoken poetry. Tragically, by the time Life Garden's first album, Caught Between the Tapestry of Silence and Beauty, came out in 1991, Dillon had passed away from the results of a heart attack. The band would continue on with the addition of noisemakers Peter Ragan and Bill Yanok as Life Garden progressed with their use of Buddhist and Tantric influences set to digital machination. This sound would be captured on the albums Pry Open My Mouth With the Red Knife of Heaven (1992) and Seed (1993). With Yanok's departure in 1995, the work load of Life Garden slowed down as their 1996 album Ahitanaman was followed by only two live performances in the span of two years. The inactivity eventually resulted in Life Garden's breakup in 1999. ~ Mike DaRonco, All Music Guide
