Biography

Deriving their name from a fateful combination of magnetic poetry words, Pittsburgh, PA's Life in Bed formed in 2001 with ex-Manifold Splendour members Sean Finn, Bill Merante, Craig Svitek, and David Horn. The latter left the group early on, just before Life in Bed recorded their debut album, and was replaced by bassist Christopher James. Two Point Perspective came out on Polar Recordings in 2003; it revealed a band whose melodramatic vocals and bombastic guitar stylings nodded to influences like Dinosaur Jr., Archers of Loaf, and Guided by Voices. Life in Bed's sophomore release, the five-track Exercises for Translation EP, was released in 2005. The following year yielded a significant lineup change for Life in Bed; Craig Svitek left the group in early 2006 and was replaced by Steve McMillan, formerly of Voice in the Wire. Bassist Christopher James left the fold the following summer, just after the band had finished recording its third album, and went on to be replaced by Thomas Cipollone. Passed and Presents came out in early 2008. ~ Margaret Reges, All Music Guide
