Light from the Dark Room

Photography Encyclopedia: Light from the Dark Room

Light from the Dark Room exhibition. In 1995 the National Galleries of Scotland, in collaboration with the National Museums of Scotland and three Canadian collections, mounted the 20th century's pre-eminent exhibition of Scottish photography. The venue was the Royal Scottish Academy of which David Octavius Hill had been secretary 150 years previously. Curated by Sara Stevenson, the exhibition demonstrated the extraordinary riches of Scottish photography, contemporary as well as historical. More than 60 photographers were represented, from Hill and Adamson and Thomas Keith to Callum Colvin and Thomas Joshua Cooper.
