Light In The Attic started out as the brain-child of co-owner Matt Sullivan, whose plan was to release reissues while also cultivating the careers of new talent. The dot-com boom of the 90s helped fund his musical schemes.[citation needed]
Sullivan started out producing live shows for independent bands such as Interpol and Saul Williams; these events brought the label critical acclaim within Seattle.[citation needed] But the goal was always to be a record label first and a production company second; profits from concert production provided funds for the company to begin releasing music from signed artists.[citation needed]
Eventually, Light In The Attic won a reissue deal with pop-psych band The Free Design.[citation needed]
