A Lightnet is a type of content and media sharing network or web portal in which resources are available to everyone, and linked to via publicly available URIs. It is in contrast to the Darknets which are quasi-underground networks, such as peer-to-peer file sharing networks or other forms of restricted access networks.
Interesting examples of lightnet sites include the Internet Archive and CcMixter.
