Biography

Lillix was a pop/rock combo featuring guitarist Tasha-Ray Evin, older sister and keyboardist Lacey-Lee Evin, bassist Louise Burns, and drummer Kim Urhahn. While they were barely teenagers, the Evin sisters picked up instruments in the basement of their family home in rural Cranbook, British Columbia. With the enlistment of school pal Burns as bassist and additional vocalist, the band was officially on its way and was soon gigging throughout Cranbrook under the name Tigerlily. A rough demo found its way to Vancouver entertainment attorney Jonathan Simkin, who quickly recognized the band's potential and used industry contacts to tidy up the demo recording and shop it to Canadian and American labels. Maverick quickly bit, signing the combo in January 2001 after a showcase in label head Guy Oseary's L.A. office.

With the Maverick deal in place, Tigerlily became Lillix, and the band's repertoire was fleshed out with the help of some industry pros. More showcases followed, drummer Urhahn was hired, and soon Lillix was recording their debut with a revolving door of producers and co-songwriters. Label shakeups and image workups led to Falling Uphill's two-year gestation; however, it was finally released in spring 2003. The album included contributions from red-hot producers and writers the Matrix (Avril Lavigne), Linda Perry (Pink), and Glen Ballard (Alanis Morissette). Lillix's bouncy cover of the Romantics' "What I Like About You" was tapped as the theme to a WB sitcom of the same name; the group further supported their album with a tour of malls and summer radio festivals. Their second album, Inside the Hollow, which is slated for 2007, featured new drummer Alicia Warrington. Lillix also worked with producers James Michael and Jeff Saltzman, who brought a similar new wave-meets-modern-rock sheen to Inside the Hollow as he brought to the Killers' Hot Fuss. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide

Lillix (pronounced /ˈlɪlɪks/) is a pop/rock band from Cranbrook, British Columbia, Canada, formed under the name Tigerlily in 1997 when the early members were in high school. The band was originally composed of guitarist Tasha-Ray Evin, keyboardist Lacey-Lee Evin, bassist Louise Burns, and drummer Sierra Hills. In 2001 the band was signed by Maverick Records and changed their name to Lillix as there was another band called Tigerlily. Hills left in 2002 and was replaced by Kim Urhahn, and later by Alicia Warrington. The Evin sisters announced that as of late 2006 the band was considered on hiatus due to the loss of Burns and Warrington, but with the addition of two new members in early 2007, the band was in the process of rebuilding. The band announced its return in 2009.

Albums

Falling Uphill

Lillix released their debut album Falling Uphill in Canada and the United States on 27 May 2003[1] and in Japan on 27 August 2003.[2] The single releases for this album were "It's About Time", "Tomorrow", and "What I Like About You", which is a cover for the eponymous song by The Romantics. This song is featured on the 2003 Freaky Friday soundtrack, and is the theme song for the comedy series What I Like About You. By the time of the album's release, Urhahn had replaced Hills as drummer. The band received two nominations at the 2004 Junos.

Inside the Hollow

The second album, Inside the Hollow, was released in Canada on 29 August 2006 and in Japan on 6 September 2006.[3] The only single from this album is "Sweet Temptation (Hollow)". This album's release saw another change in drummers, with Warrington taking the seat in October 2005 after Urhahn departed. This is also the first album which features tracks written by Scott Thompson[4]

Current status

Preceding the release of Inside the Hollow, Louise Burns stated that because Maverick Records had folded, the album would only be available in Japan and Canada until further notice. After the revelation that Warrington had departed the band at the end of October 2006 and that Burns is now affiliated with The Luna Riot, it was confirmed by Lacey-Lee Evin that the band had decided to "take a break", and that no further album releases were expected.

In April 2007, it was announced on the band's website that two new members had been located, bass player Ashley Grobell and drummer Eric Hoodicoff, and that the band was in the process of rebuilding.[5] As of June 2007, the group's MySpace page no longer listed Grobell as being a member of the band, listing bassist (now lead guitarist and writer) Scott Thompson in her place. In April 2008, Scott Thompson announced he has also decided to leave the band with a blog on myspace about it. The band now has Britt Black as their guitarist, an artist who joined after having conducted a solo career.

On 14 July 2007, the band performed at the Nakusp Music Festival to sold out crowds.[6]

In April 2008, a few days after Thompson announced his departure, the band said they are moving to Vancouver, BC and will be getting ready to record a new album.

On 15 March 2009, the band announced on its Myspace blog that it was reforming. The band introduced a new member, Britt Black, and announced the recording of a new single, "Dance Alone," which can be listened to on their official website. In addition, the band launched pages on Facebook and Twitter and announced the launching of a new website.[7]

The groups label site Lillix.com shut down after the girls were dropped; however, their official music site Lillix.net remained opened, but not updated. In 2009, the group's old official site Lillix.net was updated and re-directed to LillixOnline.com, and announced the new single "Dance Alone".
