Lily MacManus

 

MacManus, Lily (1894-1941), novelist; born in Castlebar, Co. Mayo, she was educated at home and in Torquay, becoming an outspoken republican nationalist after the Anglo-Irish War. Her novels reflect her firmly-held views and include The Silk of the Kine (1896), In Sarsfield's Days: A Tale of the Siege (1906), Nuala (1908), The Professor in Erin (1918). White Light and Flame (1929) is an autobiography.
