Limit Poker

Poker Guide: Limit Poker

A type of poker where the minimum bet and maximum bet is predetermined. A player may only raise/re-raise an average of 4-5 times (depending as to where you play) per betting round.

SoundPoker Says: Limit Poker is most common in many of the casino poker rooms today. Whether it is a $2-$4 game or $5,000-$10,000 game, the maximum amount a player is allowed to bet cannot exceed the pre determined amount. In most limit games there is usually a maximum of 4 or 5 bets over the big blind (live blind) value. For example, if you were playing $4-$8 hold em, the small blind would be $2 and the big blind would be $4. During pre-flop and before the turn you can only raise in increments of $4. If a player bet $4 up to five players could choose to go over the top making it $24 from each player. Or two players may raise each other up to a maximum of $24 each (each raise 5 times at $4 a raise + the original post $4). After the turn the betting increments is increased to $8. Same goes after the river as well, and each bet can be raised a maximum of five times. In heads up limit poker, after both the turn and river a player may raise and re-re-raise as many times as they wish (it only stops when one opponent calls or until a player runs out of chips).
