1. (Haydn: La fedeltà premiata). Tenor. An assistant at Diana's temple, brother of Amaranta and recently deserted by Nerina, with whom he is ultimately united. Created (1781) by Leopoldo Dichtler.

2. (Rossini: L'italiana in Algeri). Tenor. An Italian in love with Isabella. He has been captured by Mustafà's men and serves as his slave. He is ordered to marry Elvira, the wife Mustafà no longer loves. When Isabella arrives at the Bey's house, they reaffirm their love and plan their escape. Arias: Languir per una bella (‘To languish for a beauty’); Ah come il cor di giubilo esulte (‘Oh, how my heart exults with joy’). Created (1813) by Serafino Gentile.

3. (Rossini: Il barbiere di Siviglia). The name under which Count Almaviva, disguised as a student, woos Rosina.
