Phillip "Lip" Gallagher is a fictional character in the Channel 4 drama Shameless, played by Jody Latham. He is the oldest son and second child of Frank Gallagher and Monica Gallagher. His parents delayed his birth registration for over a year, and he discovered this on his 18th (actually 19th) birthday in Series 4. His nickname, according to his father, is due to him being "a bit of a gobshite".
Lip is in a long-term relationship with Mandy Maguire and they have a baby daughter, Katie.
He is highly intelligent, has A-levels, and was offered a place at university in the last episode of Series 4, although it is not yet clear whether he will be able to afford to go.
