list broker

Agent who arranges for the rental of lists by a list user on behalf of the list owner in return for a commission on the rental fee. List brokers perform various marketing and list consultation services in the process of bringing buyer and seller together, such as researching and recommending lists to the list user and evaluating the performance of each list after mailing. List brokers are also responsible for controlling on-time delivery of the list to the list user and usually guarantee payment for the list rental to the owner. A list broker may work exclusively with a house list or with several compiled lists or lists geared to specific target markets such as people over sixty, homemakers, or executives.

Wikipedia: list broker

A list broker acts as an agent for those who wish to conduct direct marketing campaigns via direct mail, email or telemarketing. List brokers provide lists that, minimally, contain a prospect's name and contact information. Additionally, lists may include additional information such as age, sex, etc.

Many promotional mailings such as catalogs, coupons, promotional offers and credit offers utilize lists purchased through list brokers.

List brokers may have ready-made lists, or may be dispatched to create entirely new lists with set criteria.

More often than not, list brokers act as "go-betweens" matching list owners to those who wish to buy or rent lists, charging a commission to the buyer. Additionally, list brokers may supply a client with information, price guidelines and other consultation on the purchasing of lists and data.

The most common association to which list brokers belong is the Direct Marketing Association.
An Example of a list broker is Net60 LLC.
