A political party is a political organization subscribing to a certain ideology or formed around very special issues with the aim to participate in power, usually by participating in elections.

Since 1999, Indonesia has a multi-party system. In the two legislative elections since the fall of the New Order regime, no party has managed to win an overall majority of seats, resulting in coalition governments.
