List of Sites of Special Scientific Interest in County Durham

Wikipedia: List of Sites of Special Scientific Interest in County Durham

This is a list of the Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) in County Durham. Note that English Nature, the designating body for SSSIs in England, uses the 1974-1996 county system, and this list follows the same approach. Some sites you may expect to find here could therefore be in either the Cleveland or the Tyne and Wear lists.

For other counties, see List of SSSIs by Area of Search. The data in this table is taken from English Nature's website in the form of citation sheets for each SSSI.[1]

Notes

A  Data rounded to two decimal places.
B  Grid reference is based on the British national grid reference system, also known as OSGB36, and is the system used by the Ordnance Survey.[2]
C  Those SSSIs with more than one OS grid reference are composed of multiple sections, separated by non-SSSI land.[2]
D  Site notification consists of designating a site as an SSSI and consulting with the owner(s). This list uses the date notified under Section 28 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
