Notes:

  • The last two suras (chapters), Al-Falaq and An-Nas, are also known by the name Al-Mu'awwidhatayn.
  • According to some sources, the 96th chapter, Sūratu l-‘Alaq is the first to have been revealed and transcribed to the “messenger” (الرَسُول)Muhammad[verification needed]. Javed Ghamidi states that the first chapter Al-Fatihah was the first one to be revealed in entirety to the Prophet [3]
  • The second chapter, Sūratu l-Baqara, is the longest, with 286 “āyāt” (verses), while the 108th, Sūratu l-Kawthar is the shortest, with 3 āyāt.
