Littleover Community School is a coeducational secondary school situated on Pastures Hill, Littleover, Derbyshire in England, with an age range of pupils from 11–18[1].

It is a mixed non denominational school which educates over 1,500 pupils from in and around Derby. It is a Science Mathematics and Languages specialist school and boasts high academic results, both at GCSE and A-Level.

The current headteacher is Ashok Venkatesh, replacing David Nichols in September 2010 on a temporary basis and then being made permanent in the role in March 2011.

The school has a joint sixth form centre, The Millennium Centre, with neighbouring school Derby Moor Community Sports College Trust, which opened in 1999.

Buildings

The original main building, now C & D Block, was designed by a cinema architect and built in the 1950's[citation needed]. The school has undergone many extensions as the number of pupils has grown. Namely steel and concrete prefabricated blocks in the 1960's (A & B Block). More recently other temporary and brick built buildings have been constructed, most notably J Block. This has meant the school covers a vast amount of area. The different block contain separate subject areas:

  • A Block: Science
  • B Block: Humanities and ICT
  • C Block: Art, Technology and Music
  • D Block: English and Maths
  • E Block: Languages
  • J Block: Technology
  • K Block: IT Suites
  • L Block: Religious Education and Languages and PSHE

The naming of the blocks is alphabetical, however some letters have been omitted. It is thought[who?] that J block was named after Ian Jennison, a long-serving technology teacher at the school who retired in 2008[citation needed].
