Review
A belated (and probably exploitative) CD release of the soundtrack of a videotape filmed in December 1987, this album should be more successful than it is. The Willing Sinners had shrunk to a new core trio, La Magia, but key members Annie Hogan and Billy McGee were still on board and in fine form. Meanwhile, coming off the brilliant Mother Fist album, Marc Almond also debuted a number of great tracks from future releases including the title track of The Stars We Are, songs from his two French tribute albums, and his chart-topping remake of Gene Pitney's "Something's Got a Hold of My Heart." The big problem, simply, is the recording itself -- while not indifferent bootleg quality per se, something like this should sound a heck of a lot more powerful and crisp than it is. The end result is a semi-muddy disappointment, though hearing some Almond/audience banter is always a kick. Still, though, fans of his Virgin label years deserve much better. ~ Ned Raggett, All Music GuideTracks
