Liverpool on the Mersey, Alight
When we think of Liverpool, usually our thoughts turn to The Beatles. But Liverpool has a lot more going for it than the Fab Four. The town on the Mersey turned 800 years old in 2007, and this year it is to be honored with the title European Capital of Culture 2008. Today marks the opening of the brand-new Liverpool Arena, with former Beatle Ringo Starr and Eurythmic Dave Stewart heading up Liverpool The Musical. Among other special events this year will be The Liverpool Sound Concert, starring native son Sir Paul McCartney.
