1844The Living Age. Publisher Eliakim Littel (1797-1870) launches this eclectic magazine of fiction, poetry, and commentary, which he edits until his death. The magazine featured reprints of the best articles from foreign periodicals, but after 1938 and until its demise in 1941, it was surreptitiously financed by the Japanese government for purposes of propaganda.
