THE STORY OF THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: OCARINA OF TIME:
The realm of Hyrule is the setting for the Zelda characters and adventures. Every being in Hyrule has many lifetimes to wander between good and evil and back again, and few souls will remain consistently pure in their quest to defeat the evil that threatens the land. Many adventures have come and gone in the realm, but the grandest and most challenging of them all is about to unfold, the Legend of Zelda. This adventure will take the small boy Link from childhood through his lifetime to stop the dreaded Ganondorf and save Princess Zelda.
Everyone who was born and raised in Kokiri has a fairy companion except one person. Link is just a small boy living in the Kokiri Forest who is ridiculed because he lacks that special friend. While no one but the Deku Tree knows it, Link was abandoned by his parents during a war, and he is a purebred Hylian.
While sleeping one night, Link has a vision of Hyrule Castle. In his dream, he stands outside the drawbridge as a terrible storm wells across the sky. The bridge slams down as a horse races past him. Sitting at the reigns is the embodiment of evil itself, Ganondorf! It is here that Link feels his connection to the evil sorcerer, as they have battled each other many times before. Trapped under Ganondorf's arm is Princess Zelda, who cries for help as Link is tossed to the ground by Ganondorf's power. He wakes after this horrifying vision and finds an excited fairy named Navi swirling around his head.
Navi begs him to go see the great Deku Tree, the guardian of Kokiri. Link agrees to her request, and thus begins his journey to right the wrongs of Hyrule once again. After finding a sword and a shield and learning some new skills that will aid him in his journey, he manages to pass the guardian outside of the Deku Tree's sanctuary to speak with the elder. After Link passes the Deku Tree's test, the age old guardian withers and dies, his last words telling Link to travel to Hyrule Castle to protect Princess Zelda from being kidnapped as his vision foretold.
As he sets foot outside of Kokiri Village for the first time in his life, Link must bid farewell to his few friends, including Saria. Across the Hyrule plains to the castle, Link is quickly impeded by the castle's security forces. He sneaks past these forces until he reaches the Princess in her courtyard. The two converse as if they've known one another for years and as they gaze through an open window they see Ganondorf. It is at this point that Zelda sends Link to collect three stones that will empower them to stop the evil sorcerer from entering the sacred realm: the Kokiri Emerald, the Goron's Ruby and Zora's Sapphire.
Now Link's quest broadens and he must work quickly and efficiently both day and night to collect the jewels before Ganondorf can claim them. Link must face many challenges and encounters both friends and foes as his destiny unfolds. As his adventure continues, Link will find himself venturing into the future, growing into a strong adult with new skills and weapons and returning as a child to a time before Ganondorf took control of Hyrule. Link will learn many things about his own past as well as his destiny as he travels. The epic story of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will unravel to any who brave the challenges ahead!
The chronology of the story lines throughout the series of games is as follows: the story and events presented in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time are the very first, followed by The Legend of Zelda, then Zelda 2 and finally A Link to the Past. The Game Boy title, Link's Awakening could fall anywhere after Ocarina of Time according to the series creator Shigeru Miyamoto.
THE LEGEND OF THE TRIFORCE:
Sitting in outer space, a swirling body of dirt and dust, the world of Hyrule was brought to order by three goddesses who descended from heaven to create life and balance on the planet. Din, Nayru and Farore were the goddesses who each played an integral part in harnessing the world's power and creating life. The Goddesses created five species of creatures who would inhabit Hyrule: the Gorons, the Zoras, the elven Kokiri, the Gerudo and the noble Hylians. These races each lived in a specific section of the world and lived rather peacefully for many, many years. As a sign of their power and their gift of life, the Goddesses left a symbol to the races, the Triforce!
The Triforce was a powerful item, and an embodiment of the three virtues: Power, Courage and Wisdom. All of the races respected the Triforce and where it sat great vegetation grew. Beautiful flowers, flowing waterfalls and bountiful fruits all paled in comparison of the golden beauty of the Triforce itself. The area of effect became a most revered place and was soon dubbed the Sacred Realm, also known as the Golden Land.
As time went on, the races began to dispute and argue with one another, resulting in great civil wars that destroyed much of Hyrule. Amidst this warring, some races even attempted to steal the Triforce, to harness its great power for their own purposes. A great sage, Rauru, not concerned with the petty differences of the other races, tended to the Triforce and worked to foil all attempts to steal it. He quickly designed a great temple that would keep all unholy beings from entering. Rauru built the Temple of Light all by himself to guard the Sacred Realm inside, protected by a seal of powerful light magic that could only be penetrated by someone who possessed all the virtues of the Triforce.
Fifty years of warring had passed when a great King arose and brought all the races of Hylia into order once again. He did so through military planning and diplomacy, which led to many peace treaties across the land. Of all the races that signed the treaties, the Gerudo were the only ones who denied its restrictions. The great King of the Gerudo Thieves, Ganondorf, had studied magic and myth during the years of war. He had unearthed some of the oldest testaments about the Triforce and had designs on claiming its power for his own.
Ganondorf found a passage about the Triforce in the old testaments that would give him incredible power:
In a Realm beyond sight,
The sky shines gold not blue,
There, the Triforce's might
Makes mortal dreams come true
As he spoke these words, the evil sorcerer, now empowered with great magic, set out to obtain the Triforce. Many obstacles have impeded his quest, but he is a relentless and strong individual who will not easily give up.
