Lo-yang

A city located on the south bank of the Yellow river in Honan Province that served as one of the imperial capitals in ancient times. It is traditionally regarded as the site where Buddhism was first propagated into China during the later Han dynasty by Indian diplomats in the court of Emperor Ming. While this may be dubious from a strictly historical point of view, we can be sure that the city served as the site of the earliest translations of Buddhist texts, and currently houses many significant sites for the history of Buddhism in China, such as the famous White Horse Temple and the Lung-men caves.
