Review

This has to be one of the better alt-country singles to be released that will be criminally overlooked because of its lack of mainstream appeal (let alone lack of lyrical subject matter that includes whiskey, women, pick-up trucks, etc.). Not that "London" completely fits into this aforementioned category, but there's definitely some flavor as the folky guitars and gentle vocal harmonies smoothly flow along with this original use of a coronet and organs to accompany this ballad. What makes Sparklehorse stand out even more is their "Intermission" B-side, which is basically a mash of weird samples and tape loops of that were (what sounds like) taken from their back catalog. If the record store nickel bins were a Cracker Jack box, this record would be the toy prize inside. ~ Mike DaRonco, Rovi
