Border-jumping Lone Star Overnight (LSO) flies its flag not just in Texas, but in Oklahoma, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Mexico as well. The express delivery company ships packages by land and air, offering several time-guaranteed next-day delivery options, including Saturday delivery. It handles packages that weigh as much as 150 lbs. By working to keep costs to a minimum, LSO can charge less for services similar to those offered within its home territory by delivery giants such as FedEx and UPS. Pittsburgh-based investment firm PNC Equity Partners, a unit of PNC Financial Services, owns a controlling interest in the company, which it acquired in 2007. LSO began operations in 1991.
