The Lopez Group of Companies is a business conglomerate in the Philippines owned by the López family of Iloilo. The current listed flagship company of the Group is Benpres Holdings Corporation, which was first listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange in 1993. Oscar M. Lopez is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Lopez Group.

Benpres is a major player in the public service and utilities sector in the Philippines. The Group moved out of banking in 1999, selling its shares in PCI Bank. It was first established by the late Don Eugenio Lopez Sr, and after 1986 People Power revolution, the command was transferred to his eldest son, the late Eugenio "Geny" Lopez Jr.

Don Eugenio has been gone for 34 years, but something of his spirit still remains in the institutions he left behind.
  • 80 years of the Lopez Group [2]. In 1928, the Lopez brothers Eugenio and Fernando establish E&F Lopez, the co-proprietorship that will be the seed for the future Lopez Group; at the same time, they take over the management of their two sugar plantations in Negros Occidental. Over the next 10 years, the brothers venture into newspaper publishing, shipping, air and land transport, real estate and movie houses.

Former Businesses

  • Maynilad Water Services: it was a joint-venture between Benpres Holdings Corporation and Ondeo Water Services, Inc. (formerly Suez Lyonnaise de Eaux). Benpres left the joint-venture in 2006 in order to settle a debt of US$150 million.
  • The Medical City: in April 2008, Benpres sold entire its 18% stake in The Medical City to Lombard for Php600 million.
  • Tollways: in 2008, First Philippine Infrastructure Development Corporation (FPIDC) and Manila North Tollways Corporation (MNTC) were sold to Metro Pacific Investment Corporation (MPIC) for Php12.2 billion. MNTC is the concession holder of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and Tollways Management Corporation (TMC).
