Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz was a rap duo consisting of Sean "Lord Tariq" Hamilton and Peter "Peter Gunz" Pankey. In 1996 the duo appeared on Whodini's album, Six, appearing on the track "Can't Get Enough", and assisting writing on two other tracks on the album. They had two hits in 1998 with the platinum single, "Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)", which hit number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was featured on their only album, Make It Reign. The album featured collaborations with rappers Big Pun, Fat Joe, Sticky Fingaz, Kurupt and Cam'ron. But the duo had no further hits and amicably split up shortly after. The son of Peter Gunz, Cory Gunz is also a rapper.
Lord Tariq has a solo album The Barcode that featured Peter and Cory Gunz. Lord Tariq also did a collaboration with Jay-Z and Shaquille O'Neal in 1996 on a song titled "No Love Lost" for O'Neal's album, You Can't Stop the Reign. A remix of this song later surfaced with the name "Analyze This" and O'Neal's lyrics replaced with a new verse from Nas for the Analyze This soundtrack.
Gunz also collaborated with O'Neal on "Strait Playin" (also featuring DJ Quik), "Best to Worst," and "Can I Play?" from Shaq's album "You Can't Stop the Reign" and "The Way It's Going Down" and "Make this a Night to Remember" on Shaq's album "Respect." Gunz also teamed up with O'Neal, along with rappers B-Real, Ice Cube, and KRS-1 on the tune "Men of Steel" from the movie soundtrack of "Steel" starring O'Neal.
