( d Florence, Dec 1372-Jan 1373). Florentine composer. He may have been a canon, from 1348, at S Lorenzo, Florence, where he was possibly a pupil of Landini's. That he moved in Florentine circles is borne out by the fact that the Squarcialupi MS contains all his monophonic ballate, which set texts by Boccaccio among others. Ten madrigals, a caccia and two mass movements are also attributed to him. His style is complex and experimental, with extended melismas, imitation and part-crossing, and accidentals used to striking effect. French elements can be detected in some of his works and their notation.
