Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (Arts High or LACHSA, pronounced [ˈlɒksə]) is a public high school located on the campus of California State University, Los Angeles in Los Angeles, California, United States. Though it shares facilities with the university, the two schools' activities are usually separate. It is operated by the Los Angeles County Office of Education.[1] LACHSA maintains a unique affiliation with International Polytechnic High School, which is also run by LACOE.
The school specializes in the training of music, theater, dance, visual arts, and film. It is one of two arts high schools in Los Angeles that allows students from any district within Los Angeles County to attend, the other being Charter High School for the Arts in Van Nuys. It is also one of few schools whose admissions are not based on magnet points.[citation needed]

Admission
Students who wish to attend Arts High go through an audition process. Usually, 75-95% of the first-year LACHSA students are freshmen (9th grade). Few are sophomores (10th grade) due to limited space and expected potential in the area. Each year, around 500+ students audition to get in, but only around 130 are accepted. There is no limit to the amount of times a student can audition.
Each art department has a separate audition process and students can audition for two departments. Enrolled students can change into a different department with the approval of the department chairs and counselors. Students are allowed to switch majors once, and have to audition for the new department they want to change to.
Population
LACHSA has four departments, Dance, Music, Theater, and Visual Arts. There are also sub-departments that anyone from any department may participate in, such as musical theatre and film. The Music Department has the most students, followed by the Theatre Department, Visual Arts and Dance.
