Biography

The internationally renowned and versatile Argentine band Los Fabulosos Cadillacs have been thrilling audiences with their eclectic mixture of rock, rap, ska, reggae, and traditional South American sounds for over ten years. The nine piece band began in 1985 and chose the name Los Fabulosos Cadillacs only because they thought it sounded good. Then as with now, the band is run democratically and there is no one leader; they play whatever style most appeals to them at the moment and each of their ten albums is different from the last. In 1995, they recorded the album Rey Azucar for S.D.I./Sony and featured guest appearances from Debbie Harry and from Mick Jones, the ex-guitarist from the Clash. According to the band members, working with Jones was a dream come true. One of their biggest commercial hits in South America is "Matador" which, with it's uptempo samba-reggae inspired beat, appeared as a bonus track on their 1995 greatest hits album Vasos Vacíos. The Cadillacs have extensively toured Latin America and in 1995, appeared in Anaheim, CA, where they knocked 'em dead with their lively performance. Though the band was in a slump during the early '90s, their greatest hits album revitalized their career. Marcha del Golazo Solitario followed in 1999 and two live albums, Hola and Chau, were issued in early 2001. The band officially called in quits a year later in 2002 only to reunite following the death of percussionist Gerado Toto Rotblat in 2008, releasing a new album, Luz del Ritmo, that same year. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Music Guide

Los Fabulosos Cadillacs is a Latin-American rock and pop band from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Formed in 1985, they released their first album, Bares y Fondas (Bars and Boardinghouses) in 1986. Since then they have released fourteen more albums. They are one of the most influential and most-referenced rock band of the Latin rock world.

The band's sound is a mix of rock, ska, jazz, folk, reggae, funk and big band. The lineup has changed throughout the years, but the core members have always been the co-founders: singer Gabriel Fernandez Capello (known as Vicentico) and bassist Flavio Cianciarulo (known as Sr. Flavio). Vicentico and Sr. Flavio have done the majority of the songwriting and lyrics as well. Saxist Sergio Rotman, Drummer Fernando Ricciardi and keyboardist Mario Siperman have also been featured in all lineups of the band.

The band, which collaborated with some music stars such as Mick Jones, Debbie Harry, Celia Cruz, Rubén Blades and Fishbone, received the MTV Latino Video Music Award in 1994 for the single "El Matador", in what probably was the peak of popularity of the band. The song made an appearance on the soundtracks for the movies Grosse Pointe Blank and The Matador. On September 29 of that year they produced an MTV Unplugged concert. The Cadillacs also won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album, and were nominated in the 2000 Latin Grammy Awards for Best Band and Best Music Video ("La Vida"), which received the now-defunct International Viewer's Choice Award (Southern Region) at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.

Satanico Pop Tour 09 - El Tour del Regreso/The Comeback Tour

On Monday, April 7th 2008, the band's front man, Vicentico, announced the band's return from their 6 year hiatus. According to Vicentico's mySpace, this represents a new "phase" for the Argentine band. On March 10, 2009 they released a new album, "La Luz del Ritmo," distributed by Nacional Records in the US. Along with the release, the band will tour throughout Spring 2009 in Latin America and the United States.

Along with the news on their return, Vicentico's mySpace has also announced that due to Gerardo "Toto" Rotblat's recent death, the band has been forced to make modifications to the line-up. For the time being the line-up is as follows: Vicentico (vocals), Flavio Cianciarullo (bass), Sergio Rotman (sax), Daniel Lozano (trumpet), Fernando Ricciardi (drums) and Mario Siperman (keyboards), all of whom are LFC veterans. It is unclear who will play guitar in the new version of the band.

The Band canceled the tour stop at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA that was scheduled for Thursday Sept. the 24th. No details were initially given or even mentioned on Los Fabulosos web site, but it has been acknowledged by the Honda Centers web site stating that refunds will be given at point of purchase. In the afternoon of Weds Sept 24th, the band's website press release mentioned that the show was cancelled due to the production equipment not being able to transport the needed gear in time for the show.
