Duranty, Edmond (1833-80). Co-editor of the review Réalisme (1856-7) and militant spokesman for Realist doctrines. His novels—especially Le Malheur d'Henriette Gérard (1860) and La Cause du beau Guillaume (1862)—are interesting and individual works which go beyond the programmatic theory of Realism he propounded.
