French Literature Companion: Stanislas-Jean Boufflers

Boufflers, Stanislas-Jean, chevalier de (1730-1815). Poet, author of pleasant light verse with a personal touch. His mother (not to be confused with Rousseau's patron, the duchesse de Boufflers, later maréchale de Luxembourg) was a leading beauty at the court of Lorraine at Lunéville. The chevalier (later marquis) was a governor of Senegal, and lived in exile from 1792 to 1802.
