Condé, Louis Ier, prince de (1539-69) was the uncle of the future Henri IV. Although only a second son, he was, as a prince of the blood, one of the more important Huguenot leaders in the Wars of Religion. The extent of his involvement in the Conspiration d'Amboise is unclear, but he would almost certainly have been executed if it had not been for the premature death of François II. He was killed in cold blood following his defeat at Jarnac.
