(1819–90)
French architect. He is best known for his work on the Musée d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris, where he designed the reptile-gallery (1870–4), zoology galleries (1877–89), and the central hall (a master-work of cast-iron and glass architecture). He was also an influential teacher after he took over Labrouste's atelier (1855).
