Tressan, Louis-Élisabeth de la Vergne, comte de (1705-83). French courtier and soldier, remembered for his pioneering collection of medieval romances. He adapted many of the most famous stories (Tristan, Lancelot, etc.) for the Bibliothèque universelle des romans; these are patchworks of various versions, with Tressan's own comments.
