(b Rochester, il, 11 Feb 1887; d New York, 31 Dec 1966). American violinist, pianist and teacher. He studied at Leipzig Conservatory and Ysaÿe. His solo début was in 1912 and in 1915 he became leader of the San Francisco Orchestra; he moved to New York in 1925. He was also a highly influential teacher (Menuhin was a pupil); at the Juilliard School from 1930, he did much to establish an American school of violin playing.
Louis Persinger (11 February 1887 – 31 December 1966) was an American violinist and pianist.
Louis Persinger trained at the Leipzig Conservatory where he studied with Hans Becker, before finishing with Eugène Ysaÿe in Brussels, and studying with Jacques Thibaud in France for two summers. He became leader of the Berlin Philharmonic orchestra and the Royal Opera Orchestra in Brussels. In 1915 he was appointed leader and assistant conductor to the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. He succeeded Leopold Auer in 1930 at the Juilliard School, in New York.
He was best known as the teacher of the great violinists Yehudi Menuhin, Ruggiero Ricci, Isaac Stern, Camilla Wicks, Almita Vamos, Fredell Lack, Guila Bustabo, Arnold Eidus, Donald Erickson, Zvi Zeitlin, Leonard Posner and Louise Behrend. He was also Ricci's piano accompanist for many recitals and recordings.
