Review

Though Coil's John Balance and Peter Christopherson were inspired by the acid house revolution of the late '80s, their drug-inspired "dance" album isn't quite as indebted to the style as the contemporary work of Psychic TV. The influence comes through mostly in the deranged effects and vaguely surreal air, though several tracks do increase the rhythmic wattage. For the most part, the duo retained the gothic synth pop of Horse Rotorvator, but with a special emphasis on stuttered cut-and-paste sections rather than organic instruments and environmental sublimation. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

Love's Secret Domain (abbreviated as LSD) is the third album by Coil and was released in 1991. The album marked a departure from the brooding synthesizers and melodies of their first two albums, focusing more on acid house sampling. The singles released from the album were "Windowpane" and "The Snow". Guest vocalists include Marc Almond on "Titan Arch" and Annie Anxiety on "Things Happen".

The end bit on "Windowpane" is reversed lyrics "Gold is the sky in concentrate...".

A working title for the album was The Side Effects Of Life.[1]

Love's Secret Domain was later remastered by Thighpaulsandra with slightly different track lengths. The album is currently available for purchasing in AAC, MP3, and FLAC formats at Coil's official website.

The song "Disco Hospital" was covered by Matmos on their EP California Rhinoplasty.

Lyrics of the song "Love's Secret Domain" borrow from the song "In Dreams": "In dreams I walk with you / In dreams I talk to you / In dreams you're mine / All the time." Lyrics are also culled from The Sick Rose by William Blake, specifically, "O rose, thou art sick".
