LRRP ration
The LRRP ration, or LuRP ration, was a U.S. Army field ration, developed during the Vietnam Conflict for use by soldiers assigned to Long Range Reconnaissance Patrols (LRRPs). It was a freeze dried, vacuum-packed ration. LRRP rations were designed to be lightweight and easily portable; menus included chili, chicken stew, and even freeze-dried ice cream.
The LRRP ration was a precursor of the U.S. military’s current Meal, Ready-to-Eat (MRE) field ration. Lurp Rations were sometimes called "Long rats", rats being short for rations. It was also used as a quasi-joke for their perceived bad taste.
