History

Lučko dates from the 18th century, when it noted as the village with a river crossing - the name derives from the Croatian word for "harbor". The oldest church in the village is dated 1779. In the census of 1991, Lučko had 2,013 inhabitants.[1]

Lučko Airport

Lučko Airport

The Lučko Airport (ICAO: LDZL) is one of the oldest buildings in Lučko and the main reason for establishment of Lučko as a neighborhood. In 1947,[1] after the Second World War, Lučko airport became the main airport of Zagreb, replacing the yet older Borongaj airport. It held that title until 1959, when the Zagreb Airport (IATA: ZAGICAO: LDZA) was built near Pleso.

The previous primary airport is now home to sports planes and the Croatian special police elite Lučko Anti-Terrorist Unit, as well as the military helicopter airbase.

The airport is maintained by Aeroklub Zagreb. It has two parallel runways, 850 meters (2,789 ft) long.
