( fl 1564-1612). Portuguese cartographer. He belonged to a family of cartographers active for five generations and was the son of the cartographer Pero Fernandes. Teixeira da Mota (1960) considered him to be the 'founder of a new school of cartography', which is evident from the quality of his 15 known maps dated 1582 to 1612.
