Luca Pacioli

 

(c.1445–c.1514)

Italian mathematician. His Summa de Arithmetica, Geometria, Proportioni, etc. (The Totality of Arithmetic, Geometry, Proportions, etc.—1494) and Divina Proportione (Divine Proportion—1496, published 1509) set out the mathematical bases of architecture embraced by Alberti and others, and described the Golden Section.
