Biography

Lucie Lichtig is probably not well known by the vast majority of the moviegoing public, but her work as a continuity director has been vast and varied, covering a time frame of approximately 50 years. Born in Russia, she studied in Japan and China, and managed to not only learn, but achieve fluency in many languages. Her first assignment was in 1933 in Paris, with the Max Ophuls' film Liebelei. The film was eventually to be banned by the Nazis, due to Jewish film professionals having collaborated on it. Since Lichtig was one of those Jews, she naturally became heavily involved in the Resistance efforts during WW II. After the end of the war, she resumed her film work, and with a vengeance. Her collaborations with many directors from many nations continued into the 1980s. Her sister, Renee Lichtig, is also a notable film technician who worked extensively as an editor. Lucie Lichtig died in August 1999. ~ All Movie Guide
