Lucienne Day emerged as one of the most significant British textile designers in the post-Second World War period, attracting attention with her 1950 Calyx design for Heal Fabrics Ltd., which attracted attention at the 1951 Festival of Britain. Although she was internationally recognized at the 1951 and 1954 Milan Triennali where, respectively, she was awarded a Gold Medal and the Gran Premio, she won awards in other fields, including carpet design. She also designed tableware for Rosenthal between 1957 and 1969, including the Four Seasons service of 1958, and collaborated with her husband Robin Day on aircraft interiors for the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) between 1963 and 1967. She was elected as a Royal Designer for Industry in 1962 and served as a Council Member of the Royal College of Art from 1963 to 1968.
