Wikipedia: Lugdunum Batavorum

Lugdunum Batavorum was an Roman settlement in de province Germania Inferior near the present-day Katwijk.

The settlement was located along the Rhine, the northern border of the Roman Empire, the so called Limes (Latin for "border") and was named after the great Lugdunum (the present-day Lyon). The suffix Batavorum refers to the geographic location in the Roman Empire: near the tribe of the Batavians.

A better name would have been Matilo, since the homonymous Roman fortress was located near the Leiden residential area Roomburg.[who?]
