Luise von Göchhausen

German Literature Companion: Luise von Göchhausen

Göchhausen, Luise von (Eisenach, 1752-1807, Weimar), lady-in-waiting to the dowager Duchess Anna Amalia at the court of Weimar. Fräulein von Göchhausen was a member of the court circle when Goethe went to Weimar, and in 1776 made a copy of Goethe's Faust MS., which was discovered among the papers of a descendant in 1887 and published by Erich Schmidt. It is the work now known as Urfaust. She received the nicknames Gnomide from her mis-shapen figure and Thusnelda for her courage.
