Biography

After the tragic death of singer Shannon Hoon in October of 1995, the members of Blind Melon took some much-needed time off to grieve and plot their next move. The original plan was for the 4 surviving members, guitarists Roger Stevens and Christopher Thorn, drummer Glenn Graham, and bassist Brad Smith, to soldier on with a different singer and a new name. Auditions dragged on for what seemed like ages, until it was eventually agreed for the members to go their separate ways in 1998. Thorn and Smith planned on working on a project together eventually, as Thorn went to help out Live with the recording of their album, The Distance To Here. In May of the same year, Thorn was introduced to singer Chris Shinn (of the band Celia Green), and a partnership was automatically born. The projected band with Smith came together sooner than expected, as the outfit (now christened 'Luma'), also added ex-Pearl Jam drummer Dave Krusen. The quartet recorded a 4-song EP available through their website. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
