In northern Lenawee County, M-52 crosses U.S. 12 about 15 miles (24 km) east of the Irish Hills area and the Michigan International Speedway. North of Interstate 94 in Washtenaw County, M-52 passes between Waterloo State Recreation Area and Pinckney State Recreation Area. In Saginaw County, north of St. Charles, M-52 passes about 10 miles (16 km) west of Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge.

M-52 is a two-lane limited-access highway between M-50 and the intersection of Austin Rd., near Manchester designed so that it could be upgraded to a freeway.
