(acoustics) A modification of the A mode of ultrasonic medical tomography used to display the movement of time-varying echo-producing structures by intensity-modulating the trace as it is swept slowly across the oscilloscope screen in a direction at right angles to the fast time-base sweep.

A diagnostic ultrasound presentation of the temporal changes in echoes in which the depth of echo-producing interfaces is displayed along one axis and time is displayed along the second axis, recording motion of the interfaces toward and away from the transducer.
